INSTALLATION REPORTING
A little insight.
A light footprint.
Reelio's installer reports successful installs and updates. A daily system timer checks the local API is healthy before reporting activity. Reporting is enabled by default, disclosed in setup and documentation, and can be disabled without affecting Reelio.
What is sent
A random installation ID, a separate random authentication key, event ID and type, UTC day, Reelio version, architecture, broad Linux distribution and virtualisation category. The key is stored hashed by the collector. The stable installation ID makes this pseudonymous reporting, rather than fully anonymous reporting.
What is excluded
No usernames, email addresses, server names, installation paths, media titles, searches, requests, integration credentials, hardware IDs or machine fingerprint are included. The collector does not store client IP addresses or user-agent strings in its database or access logs. Cloudflare and your network intermediaries necessarily process connection metadata under their own policies.
Turn it off
sudo python3 /opt/reelio/reelio-telemetry.py disable --target /opt/reelio
Replace the folder with your installation path. This persists the opt-out and stops the timer. During installation or updating, set REELIO_TELEMETRY=0 (for example sudo env REELIO_TELEMETRY=0 sh ./reelio-install.sh). DO_NOT_TRACK=1 is also respected. Declining reporting never blocks an install, update or normal use.
Retention and deletion
Detailed events and inactive installation records have a 90-day retention period, with hourly cleanup while the collector is running and its health checks are enabled. Anonymous daily totals are retained. To request deletion of your installation's identifiable record and disable reporting, run:
sudo python3 /opt/reelio/reelio-telemetry.py forget --target /opt/reelio
Deletion needs a working connection; if it fails, reporting stays disabled and the local key is kept so you can retry. Historical aggregate totals contain no installation IDs and are retained.
This page describes the collection service. Your self-hosted Reelio application keeps its own accounts and media-service settings on your server.
